Professor Gazzard specialises in a number of treatments for Glaucoma and Cataracts, including his ground-breaking Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) and the innovative Trabectome procedure.
Options include eye drops, pills, laser procedures, surgical operations – or a combination thereof – to prevent or slow further damage.
Treatment plans for eye conditions depend upon the nature of each case.
Glaucoma cannot be cured, but it can controlled and managed. Surgeons can use microscopes and specialised instruments to create a new bypass drainage channel for the eye fluid to leave the eye. The new channel helps to lower the eye pressure.
Because glaucoma can worsen without your being aware of it, your treatment will need to be carefully monitored. With any type of eye condition, regular examinations are very important to detect progression and to prevent vision loss.
